Public Awareness Programs
Assessing Effective Public Outreach
FreemanGIS successfully collaborated with a major natural gas operator and a direct marketing technology firm on a project to enhance the effectiveness of mailing campaigns for the operator’s public awareness program. Given a short timeline, FreemanGIS developed an innovative method that employed proximal Thiessen polygons (Voronoi tessellations) to analyze postal carrier routes in conjunction with population centers and transportation networks near the operator’s 42,000 miles of pipeline. The goal was to quickly and accurately identify rural areas where mail would not reach the public effectively, so that other delivery methods could be employed in a timely manner.
